Hyundai claims the ‘C’ within the title means ‘carbon fibre’, ‘centre of gravity’ as well as ‘Area C’ at the Namyang R&D high-performance test circuit. This year’s Frankfurt Motor Clearly show will host a limited edition version of Hyundai’s i30 N sizzling hatchback, dubbed the Task C. The car boasts the same 271 HP (275 PS) engine as the regular i30 N, yet adds several design upgrades and dynamic touches.

Until now, we’ve only seen the Project C underneath camouflaged foil, but this video shows the car in great detail, as we can clearly see all the lightweight carbon fiber bits, as well as the slightly upgraded interior.

Among the i30 N Project C’s carbon fiber elements we count the front chin spoiler, the hood, roof spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser. Meanwhile, the motorsport-inspired 19-inch wheels also contribute to this limited edition very hot hatch weighing less than its mass-production counterpart.

The interior comes with an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with red buttons for the drive modes, red seat belts and red stitching for the part-Alcantara seats, which also feature a red stripe running down the middle. The gear knob has also been changed and is now fully metallic.

Functionality will reportedly remain the same as from the regular i30 N, meaning the car’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit will continue to produce 271 HP (275 PS) and 260 lb-ft (353 Nm) of torque.

As for where the title Task C comes from, that would be Hyundai’s high-performance facility at its Namyang R&D center in Korea, which features a development track dubbed ‘Area C’.

The Hyundai i30 N Job C might be strictly limited to 600 units, available only in select marketplaces across Europe.

There really is no stopping the recent hatch arms race at present. An output of 250bhp used to be impressive until 300bhp became the norm – and now the Mercedes-AMG A45 S’s 415bhp has left us wondering what’s next. It’s in this climate of oneupmanship that Hyundai has just revealed the Task C i30 N, an even spicier version of its i30 N fizz-machine.

The Challenge C gets its name from the brand’s high-performance vehicle testing and development Area C track in Korea. With that in mind, Hyundai is describing the Project C as a ‘lighter, reduce, corner-slicing’ version in the Efficiency trim i30 N, so expect the same power with better driving dynamics and looks.

A press release – which also features the car in testing camouflage – says the Job C will use carbonfibre-reinforced plastic along with 19-inch wheels and dedicated aerodynamic touches. Unfortunately, it seems as though the N Option’s vented bonnet and rear wing – arguably the two best bits – have not built the cut.

The Hyundai i30 N Option is a concept car for now, in accordance to the manufacturer, presenting a well developed look at what a racier version could look like. It was unveiled alongside the a lot more elegant go-faster i30 Fastback N, also making its world premiere on the Mondial de l’Auto.

Hyundai says there are 25 different upgrades manufactured to the clearly show car, both inside and out. It’s clear now that this was a testbed for the new limited edition Task C road car.

Some are easy to pick out – witness the Boeing-spec carbonfibre rear wing and vented composite bonnet – whereas others are mechanical tweaks or extra subtle interior changes.

Buyers will soon be able to spec 20-inch cast alloy wheels with track-ready semi-slick Cup tyres for far more grip in corners. Handy for track days. Note also the red character line picking out the grille on this concept car, whose exhaust is bolstered by four chunky pipes.

Alcantara interior trim, sports pedals and a stubbier gearlever (above) complete the visual makeover.

The personalisation scheme will launch ‘in the near future,’ says Hyundai. Count on the scheme going live from the next few months, with the full programme showroom ready by summer 2019, CAR understands.

If your funds run deep enough, you’ll be able to go the full hog and order a car like the one pictured here, but the personalisation programme will also let you mix and match different styling elements to create your bespoke i30 N.

Just goes to exhibit that personalisation is the name from the game nowadays, as manufacturers offer punters ever pricier ways to upgrade their cars. The thing is, we reckon the i30 N is just about perfect straight out of your box

Changes over the standard i30 N include a new front splitter, finned side skirts and lower, a lot more track-focused suspension.

Crucially, other Task C additions include carbon-fibre body panels and a set of ultra-lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels that slash weight in a bid to boost efficiency.

How much weight will likely be shed hasn’t been announced, but in standard trim the i30 N tips the scales at a portly 1429kg.

There are no interior pictures, but the i30 N Undertaking C is said to come with a pair of Alcantara-trimmed sport seats and liberal use of carbon-fibre for the vents, door-handles, dash, steering wheel and gear shifter.

Under the bonnet the i30 N Performance’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder carries over unchanged. That means it produces the same 202kW and 353Nm of torque.

Hyundai hasn’t announced how much quicker the Venture C is compared to the 6.1 seconds it takes for the regular car to hit 100km/h, but with less weight to haul it should improve on that.

Hyundai has announced it plans to limit production from the i30 N Venture C special-edition to just 600 cars for selected markets in Europe by the end of this year, when it’s expected to command a large price premium over the i30 N Efficiency it’s based on.

However, given there’s no mention of the UK and therefore right-hand drive production, it’s unclear whether the faster i30 N will come to Australia.

That said, Hyundai Australia says it remains keen to offer some from the extras previewed by last year’s i30 N Option concept, including a carbon rear wing, carbon bonnet with air vents, quad mufflers, lightweight 20-inch rims with semi-slick tyres, matte paintwork, sports pedals, carbon interior components and an Alcantara-clad upper dash, sports bucket seats and steering wheel.

The Hyundai i30 N Challenge C is set to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor demonstrate this September alongside the redesigned i10 city-car and a new concept for a pure-electric car.

Hyundai has been upping its game when it comes to sporty offerings. Last year, it launched a new Veloster, complete with an N performance version “thoroughly honed” for the Nürburgring and powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. This time around, the Korean carmaker is preparing to drop the Hyundai i30N Challenge C, a lightweight, track-focused, ’Ring-developed version of its already reasonably light, track-focused, ’Ring-developed scorching hatch.

While information is fairly scant-the camouflage should tell you this isn’t quite a finished car-it’s fair to view this as Hyundai’s equivalent to something like a VW Golf GTI Clubsport. It’s the regular, already-boisterous i30N with harder-cored components and the skimming of weight (and therefore lap times).

“The unique specification includes carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic materials and motorsport-inspired 19-inch wheels,” says Hyundai, “making the i30N Challenge C notably lighter than the standard i30N and far more responsive than ever to driver input.” It also cites “dedicated aerodynamic touches” and reduced ride height as contributing factors to an even sharper driving experience than standard.

The Challenge C appears to keep the regular i30N Performance’s 271hp 2.0-liter turbo engine, but with a likely weight of around 1.3 tons, we suspect its 0-100kph time to begin with a five and-with the help of that new aero-its 250kph top speed to climb. A lot more stats as we have them.

If you’re wondering about the title, it refers to the slightly eerie-sounding ‘Area C,’ the track within Hyundai’s Namyang proving ground where the car spent a good chunk of its development.

Hyundai is making 600 units with the i30N Job C, all of them for left-hand-drive marketplaces in Europe. We’ll see it in all its orangey goodness-without disguise-at the Frankfurt motor exhibit in September.

Hyundai has revealed the i30 N Challenge C on the IAA show in Frankfurt. The Undertaking C is a a lot more extreme version on the top 275 PS spec i30 N warm hatch. Available only to European customers, the lighter, lessen and much more aggressive Job C is limited to 600 units.

The ‘C’ during the title means three things: the ‘Area C’ high general performance test circuit at Hyundai Namyang R&D centre (the birthplace of N), the use of carbon fibre (a Hyundai first), plus the lowered centre of gravity. To that, this hardcore i30 N is 50 kg lighter than the standard car, and its CoG is 8.8 mm decrease.

The Challenge C comes with clearly visible carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) body parts lacquered smooth to clearly show the CF weave. The front splitter, rear diffuser, bonnet and N-branded side sills are all created from CFRP. Despite featuring a larger frontal area and reduce ground clearance (it sits six mm closer to the road), the Project C’s drag coefficient remains unaffected at 0.32. Dedicated aero touches help.

Here’s where the 50 kg savings come from. The forged 19-inch OZ wheels alone account for 22 kg of shed weight, with the bonus of it being unsprung. Elsewhere, the CFRP bonnet (-7.2 kg), both side sills (-499g each), front splitter (+240g of aero function and good looks), new design integrated rear diffuser (-386g) along with the manually operated Sabelt competition front bucket seats with CFRP backs (-7.5 kg each) do their part.

The decrease ride height and decrease CoG is from new calibrations for the existing i30 N dampers and shorter springs. The rear wheel hangers – or knuckles – at the hubs together remove 4.66 kg as here they are built from aluminium and not steel. There’s a stiff bar during the boot, as per the i30 N’s Performance Package.

Meanwhile, all driving modes have been specifically calibrated for the Undertaking C – both Sport and N drive modes provide greater direct feedback, while N mode has been tuned for the “required agility and predictability while on race-track quality tarmac in the hands of additional experienced drivers.”

The Venture C’s interior features Alcantara highlights around the steering wheel, handbrake and gear lever boot. And just look at that brushed aluminium billet manual shift knob that’s shaped like a pistonhead. Deep Orange is the accenting colour found on the seat belts, stitching and stripes for the seats, as well as drive mode and N-mode buttons on the steering wheel. A numbered limited edition badge on the passenger side wraps things up.

The hot i30 N’s exterior is dominated by dark matte grey as well as high gloss weave with the CFRP parts. The brake calipers stand out in Deep Orange.

Previewed at KLIMS 2018, the Hyundai i30 N is powered by a 2.0 litre Theta T-GDI engine, which in standard tune offers 250 PS and 353 Nm from 1,450 to 4,000 rpm. With the Overall performance Package, output is bumped up to 275 PS. Paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, 0-100 km/h takes 6.1 seconds and top speed is 250 km/h.
